Big news for community groups, charities, and social enterprises across Scotland – the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) is back in action. With up to £80,000 in funding available, this is the perfect time to take the leap into renewable energy and future-proof your building.
At Distrikt, we’re passionate about making renewables work for everyone. Whether it’s solar PV, heat pumps, or energy efficiency upgrades, the CARES Community Buildings Fund is a brilliant way to make those plans a reality.
What is CARES? CARES is a Scottish Government-backed scheme designed to help communities cut energy costs and carbon emissions by installing renewable energy systems. The Community Buildings Fund can cover up to 80% of eligible costs, capped at £80k, and it’s open now until October 2025 – or until the money runs out.
Who’s Eligible? If you’re a non-profit group with a community-owned building in Scotland – think charities, trusts, social enterprises or faith groups – you’re likely to be eligible.
What Can You Fund? Technologies supported include:
Solar PV
Battery storage
Air or ground source heat pumps
Solar thermal
Insulation and energy efficiency measures
It’s all about helping buildings run greener and cheaper, with lower bills and fewer emissions.
How We Can Help We know funding applications can be daunting, so let us take the pressure off. From early-stage feasibility and EPCs to design, pricing, and installation – we’ll work with you to build a solid case for funding and deliver your project to the highest standard.
Whether you’ve already got something in mind or just want to explore your options, we’d love to have a chat. Let’s make the most of this funding window together.
