Funding options for homeowners

There are several funding options available to homeowners to support your renewables project.

These range from full funding, to partial grants, to loans with flexible terms to suit your individual needs.

Loans & Grants

Home Energy Scotland & Energy Saving Trust currently offer a range of grants and interest free loans for eligible homeowners, looking to improve the energy efficiency of their home.

​

Grant funding up to 75% for some energy efficiency measures is now available, based on total cost, and capped at a maximum value.

Who can apply?

The scheme is only open to those who own and are planning to improve their own home. This includes a pre-existing property or even a property you're proposing to build yourself.

​

Unfortunately landlords, businesses and property developers can't apply. There is alternative funding via Scottish Government in the form of the Private Rented Sector Landlord Loan.

Insulation

For energy efficiency measures such as insulation, grant funding is available up to 75% of the combined cost of measures up to a maximum grant amount of £7,500. The remainder of funding requested can be taken up as an optional interest-free loan up to the maximum funding limit per improvement.​

Heating

Electric heating: up to £5,500 loan (£2,500 grant available for high heat retention storage heaters when installed as a package.

Renewables

For clean heating systems such as heat pumps, grant funding of up to £7,500 is available, with an additional £7,500 of funding available as an optional interest free loan.​

How much can I borrow?

The amount you can borrow and available grant depends on the measure you want to install. 

​

There are total funding caps for single improvement measures and for combined improvement measures as a package. The total available grant is up to 75% of the combined cost, up to the maximum amount of £7,500, or £9,000 for households qualifying for the rural uplift.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO)

This funding scheme is in place to allow vulnerable homeowners who are living in fuel poverty, an opportunity to install energy efficiency measures in there home.

Eligibility is dependent on the homeowner being a recipient of a qualifying state benefit, and their home falling within qualifying criteria.

​
