Kirkliston Early Years Centre

Client: City of Edinburgh Council
Technology: Solar PV

Distrikt Energy were awarded the contract to install a solar PV system to the newly constructed Kirkliston Early Learning Centre, for Edinburgh City Council.

Our team were tasked with the introduction of renewable energy systems which would reduce the carbon footprint of the newly constructed building, while reducing energy costs for the client. To bring this project to fruition, we brought our knowledge of planning and grid applications to the table, working closely with the client to develop a renewable energy strategy for them.

Our design team worked closely with City of Edinburgh Council to design a bespoke solar PV system at the correct size that was suitable for their needs. To integrate the new system with the building’s infrastructure, we modified the LV board, ensuring that it could handle the output from the PV system.

The building had a bespoke Euroclad standing seam roof, which required close collaboration with the manufacturer to design a mounting system which was structurally capable of supporting the new PV system, while maintaining the aesthetics of the new roof, and complementing the warranty.

Now the system is complete and operational, City of Edinburgh Council and the building users, have more certainty over their energy bills and have boosted their environmental credentials. The energy will be used throughout the building, significantly reducing their reliance on fossil fuels.. In addition, the roof has the capacity for further solar PV expansion in the future should electrical demand arise.
