Wauntysswg Solar Farm - Access Track Construction for 30MW Solar PV Project

Client: Scottish Power Renewables (SPR)
Location: Tredegar, Wales
Value: £70k

Project Overview

Distrikt Energy successfully delivered the construction of an access track to enable Scottish Power Renewables' development of a 30MW ground-mounted Solar PV array covering 58 hectares of land. This essential infrastructure connects the Solar Scheme to the B4256 public road, ensuring access for construction and future operations.

The project involved constructing an 80m section of access track, designed to support HGV traffic throughout the construction phase.

Scope of Works

Distrikt Energy’s delivery included:

  1. Access Track Construction

    • Construction of the track compliant with design specifications and drawings.

    • Works completed to surface course level, maintaining separation from the public highway.

  2. Permits and Traffic Management

    • Securing road opening permits and implementing traffic management in line with the Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP).

  3. Utilities and Surveys

    • Conducting a Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) survey and desktop study to identify and protect utilities.

    • Coordinating pre- and post-works road condition surveys to identify any remedial requirements.

  4. As-Built Survey and Testing

    • Providing an as-built survey in AutoCAD format, detailing road and drainage features.

    • Completing Plate Bearing Tests to confirm the track’s durability and compliance.

  5. Compliance and Coordination

    • Operating as Principal Contractor under CDM 2015 regulations.

    • Ensuring adherence to all SPR standards, including:

      • Construction Client Expectations

      • Requirements for Contractors and Technical Advisors

      • Environmental Induction Guidance

Project Outcome

Distrikt Energy completed the project efficiently, delivering the access track within the required timeline and to the highest standards. Careful planning and coordination minimised disruption to the public highway and ensured compliance with all environmental and safety regulations.

This infrastructure now supports the successful construction and operation of SPR’s 30MW Solar PV array, contributing to the UK’s transition to clean, renewable energy.
