Distrikt Energy were appointed to deliver a solar PV solution for Highlander Recycling’s large recycling facility in East Kilbride.
Our team were tasked with integrating a renewable energy system that would not only support Highlander’s sustainability goals but also deliver long-term energy savings for the business. By harnessing solar power, the facility can significantly reduce its carbon footprint while lowering operating costs.
Working closely with the client, our design team produced a bespoke solar PV system sized appropriately for their energy profile. The final installation comprised an 80-module, 40kW JA Solar PV array mounted on a Renusol ballasted system. This setup ensures structural integrity without roof penetrations and guarantees long-term reliability.
To maximise efficiency, the system was paired with a 3 phase Growatt inverter, enabling optimal performance across the full array. Our engineers also ensured that the system integrated seamlessly with the site’s existing electrical infrastructure.
The installation was delivered safely, on time, and on budget.
Now operational, the system generates around 36,000 kWh of clean electricity annually, cutting grid consumption by 27.5% and avoiding approximately 3,598 kg of CO₂ emissions each year.
This project highlights how commercial and industrial sites can unlock both financial and environmental benefits from renewable energy. With capacity for further expansion in the future, Highlander Recycling now has a scalable platform to continue their transition towards net zero.
